Are your paints and stains safe?
VOC, or Volatile Organic Compounds, are used in paints, stains, glues, and other products for a lot of purposes. They are one of the reasons that you see warnings about using some products outside, or in a well-ventilated space. VOCs make glue sticky, and help make paint spread properly. What they all have in common is a bad smell, and a solid health risk. Low-VOC stains will have less odor, and be less damaging to breathe.
